Environment Problem: Causes and Solutions in Islam (2009)

The issue of the environment in human life has not received as much attention as it has in the past few decades, due to the imbalance that has affected the ecological equilibrium as a result of the negative effects of the industrial revolution and the depletion of wealth and natural resources by humans. People have become apprehensive about the deterioration of environmental conditions to the point of destruction. Perhaps one of the most prominent issues raised in this context is the issue of climate change and global warming, which is not limited to one country but extends beyond national borders to encompass the entire world, so that no country or region is spared from its effects. This has led to global interest in this matter and the convening of scientific conferences, international forums, and summit meetings to examine the causes of the problem, how to treat it, and the extent of the contribution of the world's countries in addressing it. Those in charge of such meetings are keen to formulate international agreements that include commitments to what they see as a solution to the climate problem and addressing its causes and effects in a way that balances preserving the standard of living and the need for natural resources on the one hand, and respecting the environment on the other. The Copenhagen Conference, which is being held between December 7-18, 2009, with the participation of dozens of heads of state and a large number of government delegates, specialists, and researchers, is considered a link in a long chain of international conferences.
