The System of Islam

Taqiuddin an-Nabhani

"The System of Islam" is considered one of the first books published by Hizb ut-Tahrir. The book deals with research in creed and Sharia rulings, and the conclusion includes the party's constitution, which it presented to the nation for implementation in the upcoming righteous Caliphate, God willing. The book discusses the creed as a solution to the major complex for man, that thought is the basis of man's renaissance, and changing man's present thought is what revives him. In the chapter on the Path of Faith, it says: "It was necessary to fundamentally and comprehensively change man's current thought and create another thought for him in order to revive him, because thought is what creates concepts about things and establishes these concepts." Therefore, it examines how Islam solved the major complex for man in a way that is in accordance with human nature, fills the mind with conviction and the heart with reassurance, and how Islam made entering into it dependent on acknowledging this solution with an acknowledgement issued from the mind. Then it begins to discuss the existence of God Almighty and proving His existence in a way that the mind can be certain of, then discussing the rational evidence that the Holy Quran is from God Almighty, as well as proving the existence of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, with rational evidence. In talking about faith in the unseen, such as resurrection, paradise, hell, reckoning, punishment, angels, jinn, devils, and so on, it proves their existence with reason and explains how to prove it, even if it is mentioned by auditory evidence. After talking about Islam's solution to the major complex, it says: "Once a person finishes this solution, he can move on to thinking about the life of this world and to creating true and productive concepts about it. This solution itself is the basis on which the principle that is taken as a method for revival is based, and it is the basis on which the civilization of this principle is based, and it is the basis from which its systems emanate, and it is the basis on which its state is based. From here, the basis on which Islam is based - as an idea and a method - is the Islamic creed." Thus, the book discusses the creed, then moves on to predestination and divine decree, explaining the difference between them and the precise definition of each. The book then enters into its third chapter, entitled Intellectual Leadership in Islam, beginning the research on the bonds that bind human beings, such as patriotism, nationalism, and others, and how they are degraded bonds and that the correct bond is the bond of creed, then it begins to define the principle and talk about the principles that exist in the world, which are Islam, capitalism, and socialism. The book also deals with other important research in Islamic civilization, Islamic ethics, and how to carry the call.

مقدمة / Introduction

Man progresses based on his thoughts about life, the universe, and humanity, and about the relationship of all of these to what came before and what comes after this worldly life. Therefore, it was necessary to fundamentally and comprehensively change man's current thought and create another thought for him in order to revive him, because thought is what creates concepts about things and establishes these concepts. A person adjusts his behavior in life according to his concepts about it, so a person's concepts about someone he loves shape his behavior towards him, in contrast to his behavior with someone he hates and has concepts of hatred about him, and unlike his behavior with someone he does not know and has no concept about him. Human behavior is linked to human concepts, and when we want to change a person's low behavior and make it a high behavior, we must change his concept first: "Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."

خاتمة / Conclusion

Hence, it is imperative that the existence of creed, acts of worship, transactions, and ethics be taken into consideration in evaluating the individual. It is not permissible according to Sharia to care for ethics alone and abandon the rest of the qualities. Rather, it is not permissible to care for anything before being certain of the creed. The fundamental matter in ethics is that it must be based on the Islamic creed, and that the believer must possess it as commands and prohibitions from God Almighty.
