Comment:
At a time when the Islamic lands are bleeding – from Gaza to Kashmir to the streets of Tehran – General Asim Munir’s visit to US President Donald Trump is not merely a fleeting visit, but a deeply consequential betrayal. The meeting, held in the White House, and framed by Trump as an expression of gratitude for Munir’s role in defusing an imminent war with India, has been hailed by sections of the Pakistani establishment as a strategic diplomatic move. In truth, this meeting represents yet another chapter in the shameful legacy of the Pakistani military elite bowing before Western powers – even as these same powers arm and defend the Jewish entity in its latest wave of brutal aggression across the Middle East. Trump’s welcoming of Munir comes on the heels of US-backed Jewish strikes inside Iran, which killed hundreds. Yet, instead of challenging US complicity in this bloodshed, Munir extends his hand to Trump himself, who funds and arms the Jewish entity, authorizes drone strikes across the Islamic lands, and once described Pakistan as a nation of lies and deceit! The general’s presence in Washington reveals the extent to which the Pakistani leadership is complicit in a global system of colonial domination.
This visit reflects decades of policy in which Pakistani military leaders have prioritized maintaining Washington’s goodwill at the expense of standing by the Ummah. Trump himself has made it clear that his administration values Pakistan primarily for its strategic influence against Iran and for its help in containing the conflict with India - interests that serve American hegemony, not the Islamic Ummah.
What makes this betrayal even more painful is the disconnect between the sacrifices and deep love of Islam of the Pakistani people and the actions of their leadership. There is a blatant betrayal and a flagrant disregard for the duty to submit to Allah’s commands, to treat the enemies of the Ummah as enemies, to defend the lands of the Muslims, and to avenge their martyrs. This duty, in this case, has been abandoned without shame.
To the Muslims in Pakistan and to their extension in our society: We remind you that true leadership does not kneel before the enemies of Islam, nor does it remain silent while Palestine and Kashmir burn, and now Iran bleeds. The way forward lies in a complete political and ideological break with American dictates. Only through the establishment of the Khilafah upon the method of Prophethood can Pakistan’s military power be harnessed to liberate occupied territories, protect the sacred sites, and restore justice to the Ummah. Until then, every handshake with a war criminal like Trump will remain a painful reminder of how far the Pakistani leadership has strayed from its Islamic obligations.
﴿O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.﴾
