Economy in Jordan - Where To? (2002)

Hizb ut Tahrir

The booklet, "The Economy in Jordan: Where To?" presents the results of studies and follow-ups on the reasons that led to this state of ailment and deterioration of the Jordanian economy, to the point where it entered the intensive care unit... and where will it end up!

مقدمة / Introduction

When the former Jordanian Prime Minister, Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh, announced in the House of Representatives on June 13, 1999, during the council's discussion of the General and Additional Tax Laws, saying: "The Jordanian economy is now in the intensive care unit," he meant what he said. This was not a slip of the tongue to be retracted or held accountable for. Rather, this statement is a description of a reality that Jordan was living and that the executive body responsible for its treatment was experiencing. When a patient enters the intensive care unit, they are in a hopeless state, so they are taken to the intensive care unit as a last attempt to save them or return them to a state of normal illness. The successive ministries in Jordan inherit a sick economy that is faltering. And how many seminars and lectures are held, in which the reality of the Jordanian economy is studied, but to no avail. The annual routine when issuing a draft general state budget law has not changed: the budget deficit is such and such..., the indebtedness is such and such..., the servicing and scheduling of indebtedness is such and such..., the unemployment and poverty rate is such and such..., the trade balance is such and such..., then listing grants, loans, and foreign aid.

خاتمة / Conclusion

The initial defect stemmed from their mindset, which is the belief in separating religion from life. They started their thinking and legislation from this belief, which neglects the instinct of religiosity, the instinct that distinguishes humans from animals... Otherwise, what does it mean for a person to bequeath their millions in inheritance to dogs and animals, while people around them are starving?... And what does it mean for a person to place a bomb on a plane carrying their mother, in order to kill their mother with the passengers and take the insurance on her life?... And what does it mean to spend millions of dollars on athletes and sports matches, and on festivals and promiscuous nightclubs, while millions of people are dying of hunger?! This is capitalism, but Islam came as a universal and eternal message to all people, based on a solid and correct foundation, which is belief in God, the Creator and Manager, and belief that the Qur’an is the word of God, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God whom God sent to all people to bring them out of darkness into light, and from the worship of servants to the worship of the Lord of servants, and to guarantee them a happy life in this world and success in the hereafter. From this belief, which is compatible with human nature and convincing to the mind, emerged the legislation that regulates his relationship with his Lord, with himself, and with others, so it regulated the instinct of religiosity with creed and worship, and regulated the instinct of procreation with the rules of marriage and others, and regulated the instinct of survival and organic needs with the rules of ownership and others. Islam forbade interest and hoarding of money, and legislated rules for distributing wealth among members of the flock so that money would not remain confined to the hands of the rich. And it legislated rules for building a society based on solidarity and compassion. Socialism collapsed at the hands of capitalists, especially Americans, and one of the most prominent reasons for its collapse was the weakness and corruption of its economic system. And here is the economy of America, the leader of capitalism, beginning to be eaten away by corruption, and here is its democracy beginning to show its flaws to the public eye. And here is America's arrogance not hidden from anyone. And capitalism's inability to guarantee a safe and dignified life for its peoples and for the world indicates the beginning of its collapse, but its complete collapse depends on the appearance of Islam at the hands of its working and sincere sons, that principle that God Almighty sent as guidance and mercy to the worlds, and it is the only principle that will save humanity from the darkness and injustice of man-made principles to the light and justice of Islam.
