Integrating the SDF into Syrian State Institutions... A Political Mistake with Serious Consequences
News:
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani said on Saturday, 10/18/2025, that the absence of the Syrian Democratic Forces within state institutions deepens the rift between them and the state. In an interview with Syrian News, he added that President Ahmed al-Shara'a is keen for the Syrian Democratic Forces to be an essential part of Syria's future.
Comment:
The Syrian government's acceptance of the Syrian Democratic Forces, known as the "SDF," into the state structure is a major political error that does not reflect the mentality of a statesman. This separatist militia with atheistic ideas hostile to religion does not represent the culture of the people of Syria, and it is not part of the Syrian revolution, nor does it express the struggle of the people of Syria in their quest to liberate themselves from the bondage of the defunct Assad regime. On the contrary, the SDF was an aid to the criminal regime, which armed it since 2012 to fight the revolution and prevent the revolutionaries from controlling areas in eastern Syria. Many honest fighters were martyred at its hands during the years of the revolution, and even after the fall of Assad, most recently the incident in the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods on 10/7/2025, where several members of the Syrian Internal Security were killed and wounded in a militia attack on government checkpoints in the area.
Dealing with the SDF as a potential partner in running the country is a legitimization of its criminal acts against the people in its areas of influence in Al-Hasakah, Raqqa, and Deir Ezzor, from unfair arrests, kidnapping of girls for military recruitment, monopolizing wealth, and imposing separatist and Marxist ideas in education, actions that are constantly documented by human rights organizations. Whoever contemplates these actions finds that they do not differ from the practices of the defunct Assad regime, and from here, the revolutionaries consider the SDF and the regime to be two sides of the same coin. Thus, integrating this militia into state institutions is like agreeing to integrate the Fourth Division and Air Intelligence (belonging to the former Assad gang) into the army and security institutions.
There is no doubt that the Syrian government is dealing with the SDF in a manner of containment and acceptance based on America's desire, because the SDF serves it and is its partner in fighting Islam, so it wants to reward it for that by making it a natural force in the government apparatus. But what the rulers of Syria must realize is that America, with this step, does not aim to achieve stability in Syria and stop the war as it claims, but rather wants to weaken the state by gathering contradictory blocs in power, and in doing so, it ensures that a strong authority does not arise in Syria, and it can, whenever it wants, move the SDF to withdraw from the government, and to create tensions and wars that break the country's back and exhaust its people.
The only option in dealing with the SDF is the military option. The government must remove this militia by force and rid the people of eastern Syria of its evils, without regard to America's anger or satisfaction, as it is not permissible for it to have an opinion, influence, or role in Syria. It is a state that is considered a reference in criminality and a model in sabotage, and its support for Bashar was one of the main reasons for his survival until 2024. The rulers of Syria should turn their backs on it and remember well what the former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak once said, "He who seeks America's protection is naked."
