The Economic Problem in Jordan (1999)

Hizb ut Tahrir

This booklet addresses the economic problem in Jordan, the reality of the economic problem in Jordan, the economic components in Jordan, and how to fundamentally treat Jordan's economic problem.

مقدمة / Introduction

Researching the economy of a country involves two things: First, the economic substance, which is the wealth within it, whether goods or services, in terms of developing it or ensuring its creation. This matter is the subject of economics, researched by specialized scientists, each according to their specialization. It is a study of the means and methods that would develop wealth, whether agricultural, industrial, or human. Improving agricultural lands and combating desertification, or adopting gas instead of petroleum in generating electricity, or preparing industrial and agricultural crews, are all scientific and universal matters taken from any source, as the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "You are more knowledgeable about the affairs of your world."   Second, is the distribution of wealth to the members of society, so that each individual can acquire or benefit from it in order to satisfy their basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter, and then enable them to satisfy their luxury needs. This matter is the subject of the economic system emanating from the nation's ideology. The reality of the economic problem is the distribution of wealth to the members of society, while the pursuit of wealth is a manifestation of the instinct for survival, to which a person is driven instinctively on their own, whether a system exists or not.   However, after the demolition of the Caliphate and the imposition of the capitalist system on most Muslims, there was confusion between economics and the economic system. Added to this for Muslims was the fragmentation of their countries into multiple statelets, out of the disbelievers' desire to weaken the Islamic nation and impoverish it in order to eliminate it. If natural resources are available in some of these statelets, they do not have sufficient human energy to exploit these resources. And if there are workers, engineers, and inventors in some others, resources are scarce, and their sons migrate from them to others in search of livelihood.   What made matters worse in the actions of the disbelievers was the appointment of rulers over these countries, strangers to the nation's ideology and the systems emanating from it. They were guardians of the disbelievers and their beliefs and ideas, so they applied the rulings of disbelief to Muslims, to distance the Islamic nation from its ideology in which lies its renaissance and glory.

خاتمة / Conclusion

Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, or any other country in the Islamic world, even if it possesses economic pillars, is unable to continue competing with the major powers, and is unable to maintain its economic wealth, because the economy is an integral part of the political system, and no state can have economic significance unless it has a principled political existence, possessing the power capable of preserving wealth, protecting it, developing it, and then distributing it fairly among the subjects. This power for Muslims exists in Islam. Without their return to Islam as a creed and way of life, they cannot stand, and they cannot have any significance in the world, whether politically, economically, or militarily, even though they possess enormous human energies and mineral and agricultural resources that exceed their needs. So, we call upon you, O Muslims in Jordan and elsewhere, to work hard to restore the Caliphate in the legitimate way, so that you may be worthy of the victory that God Almighty has promised you.
