What is Trump's goal in meeting with Putin?

What is Trump's goal in meeting with Putin?

In a press conference on 2025/8/11, Trump said: (It will be a mostly preliminary summit... I will tell Putin before the meeting that you must end this war, you must stop it, and he will not mess with me anymore), and he added, pointing out that he may withdraw from diplomacy regarding Ukraine (and I may get out after that and wish them good luck and the matter ends), (and that it cannot be resolved). He indicated that he would know during the first minutes of the meeting whether there was a possibility of reaching peace with Russia, and he also expressed his dissatisfaction with Zelensky's statements in which he confirmed that he would need constitutional approval regarding regional issues, and he announced that the meeting would be on 2025/8/15 in the American state of Alaska.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said (The two sides will focus on discussing ways to reach a long-term settlement of the conflict in Ukraine), and Ushakov added in his comment on the location of the talks (The economic interests of the two countries meet in Alaska and the Arctic region, where there are opportunities to implement major economic projects), and Trump said at the White House in his press conference (I get along well with Zelensky, but I don't agree with what he did. I strongly oppose it, this war should not have happened, it should not have happened), and added: (I am a little worried about what Zelensky said "I need constitutional approval" he did not need approval to enter the war and kill everyone, but he needs approval to exchange lands. Because there will be some land swaps). He said that he would contact Zelensky after his meeting with Putin, noting that there were no plans to invite the leader of the Kyiv regime to the Alaska summit, and said (I will contact the President of Ukraine and then the leaders of the European Union and NATO).

These are Trump's statements before the Alaska summit with Putin, and it is clear from them that there is a declared goal and another hidden one that only the seasoned politician realizes. It is an important meeting between the leaders of two countries that compete for interests and benefits, at the expense of the peoples and countries of the world, regardless of the problems between them, as interest is above all consideration.

What does Trump want from this meeting? Does he really want to stop the war in Ukraine? Or is there another goal he wants to achieve with Russia away from the war in Ukraine? And what is this undeclared goal? To answer that, I say:

First: The location of the meeting has a political significance regarding what will be discussed at this meeting. America bought Alaska from Russia in 1867 after Alexander II, Emperor of Russia, lost his war with Britain. The other thing is that it is a region at the beginning of the Arctic. When Trump came, he ordered the exploitation of resources in this state and issued an order to manufacture snowplows and prospect for minerals of all kinds, and it is a region shared with Russia in the Arctic. Accordingly, Trump wants to say to Putin and Zelensky that it is possible to give up land after losing a war and that Russia previously did that, so there is no harm in doing it again, and he tells Zelensky that the Russians gave up land after the defeat and so did you.

Second: The summit meeting will not produce anything about the declared topic, which is stopping the war in Ukraine, as this is a complex war for several reasons:

1-  The Russian position is firm, it has not changed, and they do not want to give up what they have taken from the lands (Crimea and four provinces in Ukraine), and this is declared and not hidden, and it is on the tongues of Russian politicians. In return, Zelensky, as mentioned in the statements above, cannot give up, and that is why we find that Trump attacked him and criticized him severely.

2-  The position of the European Union is against stopping the war, because Trump excluded them and they became small players. As a result, they strongly support Zelensky and tell him not to give up, especially British malice, and these positions came on the tongues of officials in the European Union, Britain and Russia, and these are some of them: a statement from the Russian Embassy in London (The continuous attempts by London and some of its partners to obstruct the peaceful settlement of the conflict by eliminating its root causes), and added: (This is evident from the activities carried out by the British leadership) before the Russian-American summit in Alaska, and this line confirms the opportunistic approach of the European capitals that say we must continue to use Ukraine against Russia, and also the announcement of Europe regarding the summit scheduled to be held in Alaska: (Success in achieving peace in Ukraine can only be achieved by putting pressure on Russia and continuing to support Ukraine), and also the statements of Mark Rutte, Secretary-General of NATO (called for rejecting legal recognition of the annexation of new territories to Russia), and the American Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, stated in his comment on the Ukrainian President's refusal to make regional concessions (that the two parties to the conflict in Ukraine must agree to end it), and Zakharova said in a comment on the statement of the leaders of the European Union (that it is nothing but one of the periodic Nazi publications).

Here we find a stark contradiction between the position of Europe and America and the position of Europe and Russia. These are fiery statements that do not indicate that there is a solution in sight to this crisis. Russia considers Ukraine its front yard and it is the first line of defense for it and will not allow NATO to officially enter Ukraine and establish bases for it and Ukraine's accession to the alliance. Trump has a very difficult task in bringing the parties together, and as for the optimistic statements from him and his deputy and from Steve Witkoff and the Secretary-General of NATO, they are all just hopes, even the seeds of the summit's failure in its declared goal are present, which is the exclusion of Zelensky, the exclusion of the European Union, and the hardening of the Russian position.

3-  There is another reason, which is the existence of strong opposition in America and a current that supports isolating Russia and not opening up to it, but rather besieging and punishing it, such as what the Biden administration did. This current exists even among members of the Republican Party and in the deep state. These people do not see opening up to Russia, but rather strangling it, especially after Russia's opening up to China. This current wants to adopt the war in Ukraine to occupy Russia, threaten Europe and keep them under control, but Trump has another opinion, which is the new deep state, the owners of greedy capital.

Third: So what is the real goal of holding the summit? The goal of holding the summit is to jointly exploit the resources of the Arctic, and that is why Trump announced that we can announce an agreement, and he did not clarify what he meant. He means exploiting the Arctic and announcing an agreement between him and Russia, and the agreement stipulates that Moscow provide Washington with assistance in developing and investing resources in the Arctic region, and in return Trump will support Russia's conditions that Zelensky will have to accept in order to end the conflict in Ukraine, and this will make Ukraine very angry because of the Arctic agreement linked to the solution in Ukraine.

The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, stated (that Russia and America are able to cooperate successfully in the Arctic), and added (the Arctic is of great importance, Russia and America must find common ground to ensure stability, develop resources and protect the environment), and concluded by saying (cooperation is not an option, but a necessity, the world is watching). So the issue is economic and resource investment at this summit, and selling Ukraine in a public auction, as if Britain and Europe know about this, and therefore they called on Zelensky to be firm and not to give up, and Trump has only the Ukraine card in front of the Russians to take the riches of the Arctic in return. Will he succeed in that?

Trump will work to sign the Arctic agreement and give promises to Russia in the lands of Ukraine without a radical solution. He is very concerned with the Arctic agreement and to hell with Russia, and let the war continue for years, and this is what Foreign Policy magazine expressed in an analytical article months ago, and its writer, one of the experts, said: (The American policy aimed at increasing Russia's isolation can accelerate cooperation between Russia and China in the Arctic), and this is what is happening now. Russia has enabled China to invest in the resources of the Arctic, and there are reports and statistics that confirm this statement, which prompted Russia to do this is the war in Ukraine, and the agreements that Putin signed with China reached four strategic agreements that enabled Russia to withstand Western pressures and sanctions, and China was drooling over the resources of the Arctic. When the Trump administration came, it abandoned the policy of isolating Russia and wanted to open trade relations with it, and he is the owner of deals and material benefits, so he took the opinion of those who say that it is not permissible to isolate Russia and force it to China, and began a new relationship with Putin and opened channels of communication and began to convince Ukraine to agree to his plans, so the trend today at the administration at this summit is to seduce Russia and isolate it from China and prevent the formation of a huge bloc with huge resources that America cannot stand in its face, so the expected is the continuation of Trump's attempts to open new horizons with Russia despite the Ukrainian knot, and it may be separated between them in the future, as this brutal administration wants to seize the riches of the world and uses multiple methods to do so, and carrying the stick and the carrot and the slogan (Let's make America great) and the slogan (Peace by force) is its slogan and its sword brandished at the world.

As for us, we say ﴿Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.﴾, victory is coming and the Caliphate will be established, and its kingdom will reach as far as the night and day reaches, and it will work to thwart the plans of these brutes, and their efforts will fail and it will stand in their face with all firmness, competence and pride, and the image of America will disappear from the world, God willing, and it will retreat on itself, and we will pursue it to its own backyard, as our righteous predecessors did when they entered the white of Kisra and entered the country of Heraclius, magnifying and chanting, for it is the fulfillment of God's promise and the good news of His Messenger ﷺ.

﴿It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion. And sufficient is Allah as Witness.

The Radar: Whoever complains peacefully is punished, and whoever carries weapons, kills, and violates sanctities is given a share of power and wealth!

By Professor Ghada Abdul Jabbar (Um Awab)

Last week, primary school students in the city of Karima in the Northern State carried out a peaceful protest denouncing the interruption of electricity for several months, in a scorching summer. Consequently, the General Intelligence Service in Karima in the Marawi locality, northern Sudan, summoned female teachers on Monday after their participation in the protest against the power outage for nearly 5 months in the area. Aisha Awad, the principal of Obaid Allah Hammad School, told Sudan Tribune that "the General Intelligence Service summoned her and 6 other teachers," and stated that the education administration in Karima unit issued a decision to transfer her and the school's agent, Mashair Muhammad Ali, to other schools far away from the unit, because of participating in this peaceful protest. She explained that the school to which she and the school's agent were transferred requires 5,000 daily for transportation, while her monthly salary is 140,000. (Sudan Tribune, 08/11/2025)

Comment:

Whoever complains peacefully by standing respectfully in front of the official's office, holding up signs, demanding the simplest necessities of a decent life, is considered a threat to security and is summoned, investigated, and punished beyond endurance. As for those who carry weapons, conspire with foreign entities, kill, and violate sanctities, claiming they want to end marginalization, this criminal is honored, appointed as a minister, and given shares and quotas in power and wealth! Is there no wise man among you?! What is wrong with your judgment?! What imbalance is this, and what standards of justice are followed by those who have taken the seats of power by a trick of time?

These people have no connection to governance, and they consider every cry against them, believing that frightening the people is the best way to perpetuate their rule!

Since the departure of the British army, Sudan has been ruled by one system with two faces. The system is capitalism, and the two faces are democracy and dictatorship. Neither of these faces has reached what Islam has reached, which allows all the people - Muslim and non-Muslim - to complain about poor care. It even allows the non-Muslim to complain about the poor application of Islamic laws to them. The people must hold the ruler accountable for his shortcomings, and they must form parties based on Islam to hold the ruler accountable. Where are these influential people, who manage the affairs of the people with the mentality of spies who antagonize people, from the saying of Al-Farooq, may God be pleased with him: (May God bless those who point out my faults to me)?

I conclude with the story of the Caliph of the Muslims, Muawiyah, to be an example for those who punish teachers for their grievances, how the Caliph of the Muslims views his people and how he wants them to be men, because the strength of society is the strength of the state, and its weakness and fear is the weakness of the state, if only they knew.

A man named Jariya bin Qudama al-Saadi entered upon Muawiyah one day, who was then the Commander of the Believers, and with Muawiyah were three of Caesar of Rome's ministers. Muawiyah said to him: "Aren't you the one who worked with Ali in all his positions?" Jariya said: "Leave Ali alone, may God honor his face, for we have not hated Ali since we loved him, nor have we deceived him since we advised him." Muawiyah said to him: "Woe to you, Jariya, how insignificant you were to your family when they named you Jariya..." Jariya replied: "You are more insignificant to your family, who named you Muawiyah, which is the bitch that was in heat and howled, and the dogs howled." Muawiyah shouted: "Shut up, may you have no mother." Jariya replied: "Rather, you shut up, Muawiyah, for I have a mother who bore me for the swords with which we met you, and we have given you hearing and obedience on the condition that you judge us according to what God has revealed. If you fulfill it, we will fulfill it for you, and if you turn away, then we have left men who are strong and armor that is extended, who will not leave you to oppress or harm them." Muawiyah shouted at him: "May God not increase the likes of you." Jariya said: "O you, speak kindly, and be mindful of us, for the worst of shepherds is the destroyer." Then he left angrily without asking permission.

The three ministers turned to Muawiyah, and one of them said: "Our Caesar is not addressed by any of his subjects except while he is kneeling, sticking his forehead to the legs of his throne. If the voice of his closest confidant or relative rose, his punishment would be to be cut into pieces or burned. How is it with this coarse Bedouin with his rude behavior, and he came threatening you, as if his head is from your head?" Muawiyah smiled, then said: "I govern men who do not fear the blame of anyone in upholding the truth, and all my people are like this Bedouin, none of them prostrates to anyone other than God, and none of them is silent about oppression, and I have no superiority over anyone except in piety. I have offended the man with my tongue, and he has retaliated against me, and I was the one who started, and the one who starts is more unjust." The eldest of the Roman ministers cried until his beard was wet, so Muawiyah asked him about the reason for his crying, and he said: "We thought ourselves equal to you in strength and power before today, but now that I have seen in this council what I have seen, I am afraid that you will extend your rule over the capital of our kingdom one day..."

That day did indeed come, and Byzantium collapsed under the blows of the men, as if it were a spider's web. Will the Muslims return as men who do not fear the blame of anyone in upholding the truth?

Tomorrow is near for those who await it, when the rule of Islam returns and life is turned upside down, and the earth shines with the light of its Lord with a righteous caliphate on the method of prophecy.

The Radar: Sudan's Forgotten War: A Disaster for the Ummah

By Professor/Yasmine Malik

“The horror unfolding in Sudan is limitless”
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk

Sudan is bleeding, and the world barely stirs. Now, the brutal war between the Sudanese Armed Forces, led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), is entering its third year, plunging the country into chaos and unleashing one of the most horrific humanitarian disasters of our time. Yet, despite the scale of the destruction and suffering, the war in Sudan is being ignored, forgotten, and silenced by global indifference.

This power struggle has claimed the lives of an estimated 150,000 civilians since April 2023 – although aid organizations believe the true figure is much higher. These are not soldiers on battlefields, but women, children, and the elderly, being mercilessly killed in their homes, mosques, markets, and makeshift camps (BBC). The El Obeid massacre, in which more than 300 civilians – including 21 children – were killed by Rapid Support Forces fighters, is just one of countless atrocities. Entire cities have been burned and razed to the ground. Mass graves have been dug in haste. Entire families have disappeared. What is happening in Sudan is not just a war, but a systematic extermination.

Women and girls, as always in wars, are among the most abused victims. Both sides have used sexual violence as a tool of terror and domination. Girls as young as 9 years old have been kidnapped, gang-raped, and then returned home physically destroyed, if they return at all. Survivors speak of public rapes aimed at humiliating communities, and mass sexual assaults in displacement camps.

Medical workers report that they are treating survivors without providing psychological support or justice. Many remain silent for fear of shame or reprisal. (Human Rights Watch, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights)

More than 14 million people have been displaced, making this the largest displacement crisis in the world. More than half of Sudan's 50 million people face the risk of starvation. According to the World Food Programme, famine has swept through at least 10 regions, including the Zamzam camp, which houses 400,000 displaced people. (World Food Program).

Food and water are scarce. Not because of a natural disaster, but deliberately. Both factions have used hunger as a weapon by obstructing humanitarian aid, seizing supplies, and preventing access to basic necessities. Starvation is used to punish entire populations.

In refugee camps, children eat leaves, and mothers go days without food to feed their children. Waterborne diseases, malaria, and cholera spread rapidly. Health systems have collapsed. UNICEF describes the situation as a multifaceted crisis, destroying every aspect of life; health, sanitation, education, and safety. (World Health Organization). Dozens of reports have emerged of torture of political prisoners, abduction of civilians, and forced recruitment of children to fight. Humanitarian workers have also been targeted, killed, abducted, or prevented from reaching those in need. Hospitals were looted and turned into battlefields. Schools were bombed. No place is safe anymore. (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights).

Yet, the media barely whispers Sudan's name. The war is described as invisible, forgotten, or simply erased from the headlines altogether. Unlike Ukraine or Gaza, there are no celebrity endorsements, no mass protests, and no political urgency.

Sudan's silence is no coincidence, its wealth of gold, oil, uranium, and fertile land make it a geostrategic prize. Powers such as the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, America, Britain, and Russia all have interests in Sudan. The country has become a chessboard for foreign interests.

The war in Sudan is no historical accident. It is a legacy of colonialism, dividing borders, and secular dictatorships backed by foreign patrons. Sudan, like most existing countries in the Muslim world, was under the control of colonial powers. It was denied true independence, its leadership was corrupted, and its people fought each other.

The democratic solutions promoted by the West are part of the problem. These regimes – designed to serve the interests of the elite – have failed Sudan, as they have failed Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan.

There is only one path that offers a real and lasting solution for Sudan and the entire Islamic Ummah. This path is the establishment of the Khilafah (Caliphate) upon the Prophetic method.

The Khilafah will unite Muslims of all ethnic and tribal affiliations, remove foreign influence, distribute resources fairly, establish accountability, and ensure dignity and security for all. History recalls how the rule of the Khilafah during the reign of Omar bin Abdul Aziz eliminated poverty in North Africa to the point that no one deserving of Zakat could be found.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: «The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for one another is that of a body; when any part of it aches, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.» Sahih Muslim. Our Ummah in Sudan is in distress, the world may not care, but we must care.

The Women's Section in the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir calls on all Muslims to raise awareness, reject false solutions, and call for the establishment of the Khilafah upon the Prophetic method urgently.

﴿O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life.﴾
