In the time of ignorance, before the light of prophecy had spread, a man from Quraish said something that humanity immortalized, even before prophecy refined it: "Humanity disdains that we enjoy while our people die of hunger." He said this as he saw the Bani Hashim, men, women, and children, writhing in hunger in the valley of Bani Talib, besieged without food or drink, while he and the people of Mecca were enjoying prosperity. This man and his companions did not wait for permission from anyone, but their feelings moved them, so they tore up the document of injustice, broke the siege, and stood with the oppressed, not driven by belief, but by a humanitarian motive.
