Episode Fourteen
Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and blessings and peace be upon the Imam of the pious, the master of the messengers, who was sent as a mercy to the worlds, our master Muhammad and all his family and companions, and make us with them, and gather us in their company by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
My dear listeners, listeners of the Media Office Radio of Hizb ut-Tahrir:
Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you. In this episode, we continue our reflections on the book: "Elements of the Islamic Psyche." In order to build the Islamic personality, with attention to the Islamic mentality and the Islamic psyche, we say, and with God is success:
We said in the last episode: Love in God means that you love the servant for God, that is, because of his faith and obedience. In this episode, we say: The best of two loving companions is the one who loves his companion the most, as Ibn Abd al-Barr narrated in al-Tamhid, al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih from Anas who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No two men love each other for the sake of God, but the best of them is the one who loves his companion the most."
It is also recommended for a Muslim to pray for his brother behind his back, as Muslim narrated from Umm al-Darda', who said: My master told me that he heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Whoever prays for his brother behind his back, the angel appointed to him says: Amen, and you shall have the like," meaning the like of what you prayed for him. Her master is Abu al-Darda', and she means her husband out of respect for him.
Muslim narrated from Safwan - who is Ibn Abdullah bin Safwan - and al-Darda' was under him. He said: I came to Sham and came to Abu al-Darda' in his house, but I did not find him, and I found Umm al-Darda', so she said, "Do you want to perform Hajj this year?" I said, "Yes." She said, "Pray to God for us with good, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say, "The prayer of a Muslim for his brother behind his back is answered. At his head is an angel appointed, every time he prays for his brother with good, the angel appointed to him says: Amen, and you shall have the like." He said: I went out to the market, and I met Abu al-Darda', and he said the same thing to me.
It is also recommended to ask his brother to pray for him, as Abu Dawood and al-Tirmidhi narrated with a sound chain of narrators, from Omar bin al-Khattab who said: I asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for permission to perform Umrah, and he gave me permission and said: "Do not forget us, my brother, in your supplication." He said a word that I would not be pleased to have the world for it. And in another version he said: "Include us, my brother, in your supplication."
It is also Sunnah to visit him, sit with him, keep in touch with him, and be generous to him for the sake of God after loving him. Muslim narrated from Abu Hurairah from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "A man visited a brother of his in another village, so God set an angel on his way. When he came to him, he said: Where do you want to go? He said: I want to go to a brother of mine in this village. He said: Do you owe him any favor that you are maintaining? He said: No, except that I love him for the sake of God Almighty. He said: I am the messenger of God to you, that God has loved you as you have loved him for His sake."
Ahmad narrated with a good chain of narrators, and al-Hakim, and he authenticated it from Ubadah bin al-Samit from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who raises it to the Lord Almighty, who said: "My love is due to those who love each other for My sake, and My love is due to those who visit each other for My sake, and My love is due to those who are generous to each other for My sake, and My love is due to those who keep in touch with each other for My sake."
Malik narrated in al-Muwatta with a sound chain of narrators from Muadh who said: I heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "God Almighty said: My love is due to those who love each other for My sake, those who sit together for My sake, those who visit each other for My sake, and those who are generous to each other for My sake."
Al-Bukhari narrated from Aisha who said: "I did not understand my parents except that they were practicing the religion, and not a day passed us except that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, came to us at both ends of the day, morning and evening..."
The Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, has explained the great reward of the believer who loves for his brother what he loves for himself, and is keen to bring good to him in his life and in the Hereafter as much as he can, as in the hadith of Anas agreed upon, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "None of you believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself."
And in the hadith of Abdullah bin Amr, in Ibn Khuzaimah in his Sahih, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih, and al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak, and he said it is Sahih according to the conditions of the two Sheikhs, he said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best of companions in the sight of God is the best of them to his companion, and the best of neighbors in the sight of God is the best of them to his neighbor."
From this point of view, one should be helpful to his brother as much as possible, and relieve his distress as much as he can. In the hadith of Ibn Omar agreed upon, the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, he does not wrong him or hand him over. Whoever is in need of his brother, God will be in his need. Whoever relieves a Muslim of distress, God will relieve him of distress on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever conceals a Muslim, God will conceal him on the Day of Resurrection." And with a good chain of narrators whose narrators are trustworthy, al-Tabarani narrated from the hadith of Zaid bin Thabit from the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "God will always be in the need of the servant as long as he is in the need of his brother."
It is recommended for a Muslim to meet his brother with what he likes to please him with that, as al-Tabarani narrated in al-Saghir with a good chain of narrators from the hadith of Anas who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever meets his Muslim brother with what he likes to please him with that, God Almighty will please him on the Day of Resurrection." It is also recommended for him to meet his brother with a cheerful face, as Muslim narrated from Abu Dharr who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not despise any good deed, even if it is to meet your brother with a cheerful face." And as Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi narrated and said: It is good and sound, from Jabir bin Abdullah who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Every good deed is charity, and one of the good deeds is to meet your brother with a cheerful face, and to pour from your bucket into your brother's vessel."
O Muslims:
After you have heard what you have heard, and known what you have known, and seen what you have seen, of the love of the Companions for God Almighty and for the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, and the love of the Companions for each other for the sake of God Almighty, why do we not be like them in our love for God and His Messenger and for the believers; so that God will be with us as He was with them, and honor us with His victory as He honored them, and so that we will be with them on the Day of Resurrection in the company of the master of the messengers, with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous, and what good companions they are?!
