The Radar: Is America Tampering with the Sykes-Picot Maps?
By Professor / Ahmed Al-Qasas
For years, America's actions on the ground have indicated that it is laying the foundations for new entities that are different from the Sykes-Picot entities, the San Remo Agreement, and the decisions made thereafter by Britain and France to create states whose borders were drawn on paper and then on the sand, thus creating the map we still know today. The American project is a project to further fragment the region, which is not new, but rather old and not hidden from anyone following events. Decades ago, the most prominent person to propose this project was the doyen of the neoconservatives, the famous orientalist Bernard Lewis, a specialist in Islamic history and Islamic political thought. He proposed a new map of the region, drawn according to sectarian, religious, and ethnic boundaries, to increase division and weakness, which would ward off danger from the entity of the Jews and facilitate the complete extension of American influence over it.
When America launched the war on Afghanistan, and then on Iraq, during the era of Bernard Lewis's disciples – the neoconservatives – it had a project to create a different Middle East from the one we know. After the fall of Iraq easily, the US Secretary of Defense at the time, Donald Rumsfeld, announced that the road was now paved to Syria and other countries. However, most of the world united against the gang of neoconservatives; Russia, Europe, China, countries in orbit, and affiliated countries. This led to their failure and their removal from power even before George W. Bush Jr. left the White House. Then the Democrats returned to the White House with Obama's victory to clean up the mess of the neoconservatives and repair their international relations that had cracked, which delayed the New Middle East project indefinitely. It was noticeable that when the Republicans took power in America, they tried to rush into this project, and when the Democrats took it, they retreated. The revolutions that took place in the Arab region since the end of 2010 were a fundamental factor in hindering this project again, as Obama took it upon himself to bury these revolutions, especially in Syria.
When Trump arrived at the White House in 2016, he tried to move forward with the implementation of that project again, but he was surrounded by a considerable number of pillars of the deep state who were obstructing his attempts, and he fell under the blows of the Democrats in the 2019 presidential elections, and the Democrats returned to power again in the person of Biden. Before Biden's term ended, the Democrats' decision this time to move forward with the plan to reshape the region and place America's hand on it directly, after they had entrusted it for decades to regional guardians, led by Iran, became clear. The decision was made to eliminate Hamas in Gaza, Iran's party in Lebanon, and the Iranian presence in Syria, and also the Iranian nuclear program.
Accordingly, the cornerstone for implementing the project of dividing the region was not laid in those recent wars that America launched at the hands of the entity of the Jews since Operation Al-Aqsa Flood in 2023, and through striking Iran's party in 2024, and then striking Iran itself this year, but rather implementation began on the ground since its invasion of Iraq in 2003, by fueling sectarian strife in Iraq between (Sunnis and Shiites), and by consolidating the division of the Kurdistan region, which gained autonomy and turned into a quasi-real state. Then these foundations were completed in Syria during the years of the revolution by strengthening sectarian and religious hatreds in it, by sponsoring the establishment of the (Minorities) alliance led by Iran in the face of the Sunni Islamic majority, and by sponsoring the Kurdish separatist movement in the east of the Euphrates. As for Lebanon, it had a major role in undermining its political system, when it prevented France from activating the decisions of the Paris conference, in which it was decided to grant Lebanon billions of dollars to revive its economy, which led to accelerating its financial and economic collapse, and then to the outbreak of what resembles a popular revolution, and at that time it instructed Saad Hariri to resign from the premiership, and thus overthrow the government that was effectively the government of Iran's party. All these achievements were a prelude to undermining the regional order, to reformulate the region anew.
America's primary goal in fragmenting the fragmented in the region was to eliminate countries with relative military, demographic, and geographic power. There were two countries in it that enjoyed considerable power in these aspects, namely Iraq and Syria. Of course, the danger was not evident in the Baathist regimes in them, but rather in the possibility of establishing a sincere political system independent of foreign will in either of them that decides to eliminate the entity of the Jews and the influence of America and the West in general in the region.
One of America's most important goals in the region is to consolidate the entity of the Jews, so that it becomes a natural entity. It is a racist entity based on religious myth, and in order for it to become a natural entity in the region, all the entities around it must be like it, sectarian and religious entities. Beside it, there would be a Christian entity in Lebanon, a second Alawite entity on the Syrian coast, a third Druze entity in southern Syria and part of Lebanon, a fourth Shiite entity in southern Iraq, a fifth Kurdish entity in its north and eastern Syria, and one or more Sunni Arab entities between Iraq and the Levant. Thus, this image of the region makes the entity of the Jews a natural entity. After that, America may link all these entities in some form of formal federal constitutional forms. Many statements and decisions have revealed a perception that these entities of a racial nature – including the entity of the Jews – may be fabricated with a fictitious link that connects them, which is Abrahamism, in that all their peoples belong to one grandfather, who is the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him. It was no coincidence that Trump named the normalization agreements that he sponsored in his first term between a number of Arab countries and the entity of the Jews as the Abraham Agreements or the Abrahamic Agreements, in preparation for a project that may lead to what is called, for example, the "Abrahamic Union."
But the aspect that is no less important than everything we have mentioned is the aspect of the strategic economic conflict between America and China, and also America's plan to restrict Russia and subjugate it. This is what I will dedicate the second part of this article to, God willing.
