Events in As-Suwayda
Question:
(The "Axios" website reported a high-level meeting in Paris between the Israeli Minister of Strategic Planning, Ron Dermer, and the Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shibani, mediated by the US Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak. 2025/7/25), and the past few days since 2025/7/12 have witnessed an acceleration of unrest in the As-Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria, which is inhabited by a majority of Druze. The Jewish entity has announced its intervention in their affairs, in addition to continuing its aggression and attacks in Syria. It struck the vicinity of the presidential palace, the Ministry of Defense, and the General Staff in Damascus... The question is: What is the reality of what is happening in As-Suwayda? What is the Jewish entity planning for the As-Suwayda region and southern Syria in general, and does America support it in its planning? What is the relationship of all this to what is mentioned about normalization talks between the Syrian regime and the Jewish entity, especially what happened in meetings in Azerbaijan? And the meetings referred to in Paris? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In order to clarify the answer to the questions above, we will review the following matters:
1- Regarding the Druze, their number in Syria is estimated at about 700,000, residing in areas in southern Syria, especially in the As-Suwayda Governorate. A section of them reside in Lebanon, estimated at about 250,000, and there is a section of them, estimated at about 140,000, residing in northern Palestine and in the Golan Heights. The Jewish entity has granted its citizenship to those residing in the occupied territories, and some of them have joined the ranks of its army. Consequently, the Jewish entity uses them as a pretext to intervene in Syria. It has stirred them up since the end of last February in Jaramana and Sahnaya near the capital Damascus. In the recent events in As-Suwayda that broke out since 2025/7/12, the Jewish entity clearly announced that it supports the Druze and is working to exploit them, as gangs of Druze committed acts of violence against the Muslim Bedouins residing in the As-Suwayda Governorate, killing hundreds of them. The Prime Minister of the Jewish entity, Netanyahu, announced in a speech broadcast by Jewish television and other media on 2025/7/17, saying: (We have set a clear policy, the disarmament of the region located south of Damascus, from the Golan Heights to the Jabal al-Druze region, and this is the first line. As for the second line, it is to protect the Druze in the Jabal al-Druze region). The Minister of War of the Jewish entity, Israel Katz, sent threats to Syria on the X platform on 2025/7/16, saying (The signals to Damascus are over, and now the painful strikes will come. The army will continue to operate strongly in As-Suwayda to destroy the forces that attacked the Druze until their complete withdrawal). The spokesman for the Jewish army said on the X platform: (The army continues to strike military targets of the Syrian regime. It attacked the headquarters of the Syrian General Staff in the Damascus area a short while ago). On the same day, the radio of the Jewish entity's army announced (that it had attacked about 160 targets in Syria since last night, most of them in As-Suwayda "against the Syrian security forces and the Bedouins", and some of them in the capital Damascus...). It was announced that the Presidential Palace and the Ministry of Defense were struck, along with the General Staff in Damascus.
2- Thus, the Jewish entity clearly announces its goals and policies, and that it is exploiting the Druze to implement this policy towards Syria, making it appear that their matter is of concern to it and not to the Syrian regime, as if it were implicitly carving out this region from Syria and becoming the dominant force over it. Knowing that it has been launching attacks in Syria during the era of the Bashar Assad regime, but it did not take the Druze as a pretext for that, but rather took the Iranian presence and its followers as a pretext for that. It struck many military centers of the regime, as well as of Iran, which was supporting the regime with its militias, and struck its consulate in Damascus, killing many Iranian military leaders. On the day that Bashar Assad fled on 2024/12/8, the Jewish entity launched heavy raids over successive days and struck hundreds of Syrian military sites. When it did not receive a response or resistance, it became greedy and continued its attacks until it advanced and occupied new Syrian lands, reaching about 25 kilometers from the capital Damascus and occupying Mount Hermon, violating the 1974 disengagement and ceasefire understandings. The Jewish entity wants to secure southern Syria as a safe, demilitarized buffer zone, playing the card of minorities, especially the Druze.
3- Following these events, the Syrian President, Ahmed Al-Shara, delivered a speech broadcast by Syrian television and other Arab television stations on the morning of 2025/7/17, in which he said: ("We were faced with the choice between war with Israel or allowing the Druze elders to agree, so we chose to protect the homeland." He said: "Israel sought to undermine the ceasefire "in As-Suwayda" were it not for American, Arab and Turkish mediation.") He delivered a second speech on 2025/7/19, which was reported by the Syrian News Agency and broadcast on television, in which he said: ("The Syrian state has managed to calm the situation despite the difficulty of the situation, but the Israeli intervention has pushed the country into a dangerous stage that threatens its stability as a result of the blatant bombing of the south and government institutions in Damascus. As a result of these events, American and Arab mediations intervened in an attempt to calm the situation.") He is counting on the intervention of other countries, especially America, which sponsors and supports the Jewish entity, in order to give it a way to him!
4- Then the events escalated and the relationship of the Jews with Hikmat al-Hijri began to become clear, as he tightened his grip on the internal side of As-Suwayda. Under the titles of "Strengthening the ranks within the sect and comforting the families of the martyrs," he began to eliminate voices that did not support him, such as the voices of al-Jarboa, al-Balaous, and al-Hannawi. If Hikmat al-Hijri's faction is the largest in As-Suwayda and dominates the other factions, then the voices of the opponents, such as al-Jarboa and al-Balaous, have become shy in their demands to remain within the Syrian state, and they have no weight on the ground. Hikmat al-Hijri is the one who ignites the confrontations, and he is the one who disavows the agreements concluded with Damascus. His movement is the dominant one in As-Suwayda, and he issues his statements in the name of the spiritual leadership of the Druze sect, without regard to the references of al-Jarboa and al-Hannawi. It is clear that he is in direct contact with the Jewish entity, and he had sent dozens of Druze visitors to the entity. Hikmat al-Hijri issued a statement in the name of the Druze Spiritual Presidency in which he said: ("We appeal to the free world, and all the active forces in it, and we direct our appeal to His Excellency the (American) President Donald Trump, the Prime Minister of the (Israeli) State Benjamin Netanyahu, the Crown Prince (Saudi) Prince Mohammed bin Salman, His Majesty King (Jordanian) Abdullah II, and everyone who has a voice and influence in this world... Save As-Suwayda." Anadolu Agency, 2025/7/17) The Jewish entity opened the gates of its borders to the Druze from inside the entity to join the fighting inside Syria. RT reported on 2025/7/19 that about 2,000 people from the Druze sect, including soldiers serving in the Jewish army, announced within one day their intention to join the fighting in Syria.
5- It should be noted that the Damascus government has made itself the weakest link in the series surrounding As-Suwayda and southern Syria. In addition to its complacency and inaction towards all the military strikes carried out by the Jewish entity against it and its weapons, it enters southern Syria, kills and arrests as if there is no state. All this absence of state reactions is based on the advice of Erdogan, who announced his support for the American president's request that Damascus join the Abraham Accords (Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, 2025/7/6). Erdogan sponsored the Al-Shara government's contacts with the Jewish entity in Azerbaijan. Thus, the government of Ahmed Al-Shara has become a very fragile link in the As-Suwayda crisis. It intervened to resolve the clashes in the region and withdrew from it in humiliation under the bombing of the Jewish entity, which reached the General Staff of the Army and nearly reached the Presidential Palace. Then America intervened with a mediation called Arab and Turkish for the security forces to return, this time from the Ministry of Interior and not the army, i.e., with light weapons. Then it became clear that these government forces did not enter As-Suwayda, but their function was to prevent the Arab tribes from continuing their attack on As-Suwayda, i.e., they stood at the edges of the governorate and did not enter it. Rather, the Jewish entity had demanded that of it, i.e., preventing the tribes from attacking As-Suwayda. In every agreement, the rebel Hikmat al-Hijri was the one who violated the agreement and demanded new conditions, forcing the government to formulate another new agreement, the last of which is the fourth in a week. The government of Ahmed Al-Shara, through negotiations, removed the tribal militants from inside As-Suwayda without entering it, then displaced the tribes residing in As-Suwayda outside it, and transferred and displaced hundreds of Muslim families from As-Suwayda to shelters in Daraa, which is also being done by Hikmat al-Hijri, (as clashes renewed, Friday, after a group affiliated with Hikmat al-Hijri, one of the Druze leaders, displaced a number of members of the Sunni Bedouin tribes and committed violations against them. The new Syrian government has practically proven that it accepts ruling Syria according to what America dictates, and that the path is drawn for it by the American ambassador in Turkey and its envoy to Syria, Tom Barak!
6- By pondering the events in Syria, it becomes clear that America is managing it with a plan that did not start today, even if it escalated after Trump came, as (American President Donald Trump called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - during their meeting at the White House - to "solve his problems" with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, "and act rationally". Trump said - in his statements to reporters during his meeting with Netanyahu - about his good relationship with the Turkish president, saying: "I have a wonderful relationship with a man named Erdogan, and I love him and he loves me, and that is what angers the media." He explained that he told Netanyahu that "he loves Erdogan", and if he has problems with him, he should solve them", stressing that "the Israelis must act rationally to solve any problem with Turkey". Al Jazeera 2025/4/8) Then (Trump met Wednesday in Riyadh with the transitional Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara in the first meeting of its kind in 25 years, a day after he announced his decision to lift sanctions on Damascus, which welcomed the move and considered it a "pivotal turning point". A White House spokesman said that Trump called on the Syrian president to sign the Abraham Accords with Israel. France 24, 2025/5/14). With this meeting, the lifting of sanctions on Syria, and his request from Netanyahu to coordinate his actions in Syria with Turkey, President Trump and his administration are working to dominate Syria.
7- Thus, it becomes clear that the American plan in Syria is based on a main principle, which is replacing one agent with another. For this purpose, it gave Turkey the green light to demolish the Bashar regime and build a new regime subordinate to it. Despite all the complacent statements from the new Syrian President, Ahmed Al-Shara, which indicate his acceptance of this replacement, including abandoning the rule of Islam and abandoning the accountability of Bashar's followers and replacing it with national reconciliation, he has gone so far as to open negotiations with the Jewish entity behind the scenes. Then in Azerbaijan on 2025/7/12 from above the curtain, and after that there were the Paris meetings: (The "Axios" website reported a high-level meeting in Paris between the Israeli Minister of Strategic Planning, Ron Dermer, and the Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shibani, mediated by the US Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak. The agreement also stipulates the formation of local councils from the people of As-Suwayda to provide services, the formation of a committee to document violations that report directly to the American side, in addition to disarming the Daraa and Quneitra governorates, and forming local security committees there without allowing the possession of heavy weapons. All this confirms that America wants southern Syria to be a buffer zone and safe for the Jewish entity, and that it is satisfied with its repeated attacks until the regime submits to this situation in order to normalize relations. What happened in meetings in Azerbaijan and Paris are successive steps in this path. According to media leaks, among the most prominent things being negotiated is: the establishment of a security buffer zone in southern Syria for the benefit of the Jewish entity, as is the case in Sinai between Egypt and the Jewish entity according to the peace agreement concluded by the Egyptian regime in 1979, which is still in effect and prevents the people of Egypt from moving to support their brothers in Gaza who are being subjected to genocide.
8- Finally, it is truly painful that Syria of the Levant, which the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, said about in his noble hadith that Al-Tabarani narrated... from Salama bin Nufayl, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: «The heartland of Islam is in the Levant», becomes under a regime that rules it away from Islam and that its ruler falls into allegiance to America and submission to the Jewish entity without fighting it, but rather searching for peace agreements with it, and doing what pleases this entity and its supporter, America. He even kept the youth of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the callers to the Rightly-Guided Caliphate, in prisons and did not release them to please America and the Jews, the enemies of the Caliphate and its people, falsely believing that pleasing the enemies of Allah will preserve his regime! He forgot or overlooked the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, which Ibn Hibban narrated in his Sahih from Urwa, from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: «Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah by angering the people, Allah will be pleased with him and will make the people pleased with him, and whoever seeks the pleasure of the people by angering Allah, Allah will be angry with him and will make the people angry with him» and Al-Tirmidhi narrated it in his Sunan with the wording «Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah by angering the people, Allah will suffice him the burden of the people, and whoever seeks the pleasure of the people by angering Allah, Allah will entrust him to the people».
In any case, we are confident that the Caliphate will return after this oppressive rule that we live in: Ahmad narrated in his Musnad from Hudhayfa who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: «.. Then there will be an oppressive kingdom, and it will be as Allah wills it to be, then He will remove it when He wills to remove it, then there will be a Caliphate according to the method of Prophethood. Then he was silent» and Al-Tayalisi narrated it in his Musnad as well. At that time, Islam and the Muslims will be honored, and disbelief and the disbelievers will be humiliated. Give good tidings to the believers: ﴿AND [another] THAT YOU LOVE - VICTORY FROM ALLAH AND AN IMMINENT CONQUEST; AND GIVE GOOD TIDINGS TO THE BELIEVERS﴾.
