With the Hadith
The Chapter on Honesty and Clarity in Selling
We greet you all, dear listeners, everywhere, in a new episode of your program "With the Hadith," and we begin with the best greeting, so peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
Muhammad bin Al-Muthanna narrated to us, Yahya bin Saeed narrated to us from Shu’ba, and Amr bin Ali narrated to us, Yahya bin Saeed and Abdul Rahman bin Mahdi narrated to us, they said Shu’ba narrated to us from Qatada from Abi Al-Khalil from Abdullah bin Al-Harith from Hakeem bin Hizam from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "The two parties to a sale have the option (to cancel it) as long as they have not separated. If they are truthful and clear, their transaction will be blessed. But if they lie and conceal, the blessing of their transaction will be blotted out." Amr bin Ali narrated to us, Abdul Rahman bin Mahdi narrated to us, Hammam narrated to us from Abi Al-Tiyyah, he said: I heard Abdullah bin Al-Harith narrating from Hakeem bin Hizam from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, similarly. Muslim bin Al-Hajjaj said: Hakeem bin Hizam was born inside the Kaaba and lived one hundred and twenty years.
The saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "The two parties to a sale have the option (to cancel it) as long as they have not separated. If they are truthful and clear, their transaction will be blessed," means that each party clarifies to the other what needs to be clarified, such as a defect or the like in the goods and the price, and is truthful in that, and in informing about the price and what relates to the two compensations, and the meaning of (the blessing of their transaction will be blotted out) means its blessing goes away, which is its increase and growth.
Dear listeners
Islamic law has made the development of wealth restricted within limits that may not be transgressed. The law has warned against unlawful income and against a person's food and drink being unlawful. Therefore, whoever wants to engage in trade must fear God in himself and not taint his money with what is forbidden, such as a merchant lying to the buyer or selling a commodity with a defect and not informing the buyer of it.
God Almighty said: "{And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect}," and fearing God, dear listeners, is by following His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. Let not the love of developing wealth lead us to follow our desires and forget what God has forbidden.
And beware lest God gradually lead you astray with this money of yours... The law teaches us how to be lenient when one sells and lenient when one buys, and that interests should not be what we strive for, even at the expense of violating God's law.
It is forbidden for a Muslim to engage in trade while he is ignorant of what God has made lawful and unlawful in such transactions. And in the absence of an external deterrent that holds the wrongdoer accountable and punishes the violator, the deterrent must be internal.
Islam appears in transactions such as buying, selling, leasing, contracts, and other transactions. So, O merchants, be a good face for Islam.
Dear listeners, until we meet you with another prophetic hadith, we leave you in God's care, and peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
