What an embarrassment." Hours before the start of the parade, thousands of demonstrators took to the streets, parks and squares across the country to denounce the Republican president, describing him as a dictator or an aspiring king. Protesters criticized Trump for using the military to respond to those protesting his deportation efforts, and for sending tanks and thousands of soldiers and planes for a military parade in the US capital. Huge and noisy crowds marched in New York, Denver, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles, some behind "No Kings" banners. A crowd of protesters gathered in the tourist and historical Logan Circle area northwest of Washington and chanted "Trump must go now."
