Syrian activists have called for the release of activist and engineer Mazen Arja, a day after he was arrested by the Internal Security Service in Idlib. Arja's arrest came yesterday, Sunday, against the backdrop of a video clip in which he criticized the construction of a mosque in the middle of a public park in the "Al-Zeer" project in the city of Idlib, which deprived the residents of the neighborhood of their only outlet, according to him. After Arja reviewed the police station, he was arrested at the place, and he has not been released until now. Hours before his arrest, Arja published on his Facebook account photos of two summonses issued by the "Internal Security Command" in the Syrian Ministry of Interior, to review the investigation office in the western police station in the city of Idlib. Arja attacked those responsible for building the mosque and the parties that granted the licenses. Arja pointed out in the video clip that the "Al-Zeer" neighborhood contains 4 mosques close to the site, which he considered that there was no justification for building a mosque in the only garden in the random housing project crowded with residents. He confirmed in another post that the step of building the mosque was "without regard to green spaces for the residents of the neighborhood, and without regard to the privacy and importance of the garden in that popular area, with a very large population density." He pointed out that the fate of children after turning the garden into a mosque has become playing in the streets.

Minister of Education Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rahman Turku discussed today, Monday, with the Regional Director of UNESCO Paolo Fontani, the educational reality in Syria and ways to support the sector and rehabilitate schools to provide a suitable environment for students, especially those returning to their lands, according to an official statement reported by SANA. The meeting was held at the Ministry's headquarters in Damascus, where Minister Turku stressed that the infrastructure of schools is "the cornerstone of the educational process," and stressed the Ministry's keenness to allocate an activity room in each school — which contributes to strengthening the culture of civil peace and dialogue among students — because "education and culture are the key to peace in the new Syria." For his part, the Regional Director affirmed that UNESCO is ready to contribute to joint plans to assess the damage and the extent of the need for schools to receive immediate and structural support, in order to rehabilitate schools and improve educational services. He also expressed his appreciation for the Ministry's role in these efforts, praising "Syria's return to international forums," considering that this represents an opportunity to strengthen the education sector through effective international support.

The Director of Administrative Development in the Ministry of Education, Mr. "Abdul Karim Qadri," stated today, Monday, that the Ministry has directed the directorates of education in the various governorates to collect lists of the names of the educational and administrative staff who were dismissed from their jobs during the years of the Syrian revolution, in a step aimed at reviewing their files in coordination with the Ministry of Administrative Development. The Syrian Ministry of Education published the official statement issued by "Qadri," in which the latter pointed out that the deadline for sending the names does not exceed three days, noting that this step came under the direction of the Minister of Education, in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures in order to return them to work.

The Syrian Jazeera regions are witnessing this year one of the most severe droughts since 1989, which has led to a very large decrease in the production of wheat and grains, and exacerbated the food security crisis, as the Jazeera is considered the most important food basket in Syria. According to estimates of the so-called "self-administration" in northeastern Syria, production will not exceed 350,000 tons, compared to 766,000 tons last year, and one million tons before 2011.

Correspondents reported that the death toll from the bombing of the Mar Elias Church in the Al-Dweil'a area of Damascus has risen to 27 victims. They pointed out that a number of Syrian government officials visited the church and stressed the need to hold those involved in the attack accountable.

For the second day in a row, the occupation forces continue to close the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and prevent Palestinians from flocking to it to pray and stay there. The occupation is exploiting the declaration of a "state of emergency" towards Iran in order to close Al-Aqsa and empty it of worshipers and exercise absolute control over it. Activists and deprived worshipers monitored pictures from inside the courtyards of the mosque, showing it almost completely devoid of worshipers, in a painful scene that reflects the extent of the occupation's restrictions and escalation.
