From the Elements of the Islamic Psyche
Episode 3
Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the Imam of the pious, and the master of the messengers, who was sent as a mercy to the worlds, our master Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions, and make us with them, and gather us in their group with your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
O Muslims:
Dear listeners, listeners of the Media Office Radio of Hizb ut-Tahrir:
Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you. In this episode, we continue our reflections on the book "From the Elements of the Islamic Psyche." In order to give vivid examples of the Islamic personality, with a focus on the Islamic mentality, we say, with God's help: We said in the previous episode: "The mentality is the way the mind processes things, that is, issuing a judgment on them according to the rule that it believes in and is satisfied with." This is how the Muslim should be, standing firm at the limits of God, measuring things by God's standard, and weighing them with God's scale, which is the lawful and the forbidden, obeying what God and His Messenger have commanded, and abstaining from what God and His Messenger have forbidden, doing so even if it contradicts his desires and interests, seeking God's pleasure, and the state of his tongue says what the poet said:
I wish you would be sweet while life is bitter And I wish you would be pleased while people are angry
And I wish that which is between me and you is inhabited And between me and the worlds is ruined
If affection from you is genuine, then everything is easy And everything that is above the ground is dust
O Muslims:
The believer with the Islamic mentality is «gentle, pliant, wise, and intelligent.» As our beloved Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, told us, the believer is characterized by intelligence and wit, and he is quick-witted, meaning that in difficult and critical situations, he acts like a wise man, giving a silencing answer to his opponent, which saves him and relieves him of distress and embarrassment, and gets him out of the predicament that his opponent put him in. We give a vivid example of this from the biography of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: Ibn Hisham said in the biography: Ibn Ishaq said: "The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, rode until they stopped at an old man from the Arabs and asked him about Quraish and about Muhammad and his companions and what he had heard about them. The old man said: I will not tell you until you tell me who you are. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: «If you tell us, we will tell you.» He said: Is that for that? He said: «Yes.» The old man said: I heard that Muhammad and his companions left on such and such a day, and if the one who told me is telling the truth, they are today in such and such a place, the place where the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, is. And I heard that Quraish left on such and such a day, and if the one who told me is telling the truth, they are today in such and such a place, the place where Quraish is. When he finished his news, he said: Who are you? The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: «We are from water.» Then he turned away from him. He said: The old man says: What water? From the water of Iraq?
O Muslims:
This is how the mentality of the believer should be, an Islamic mentality. He understands things, meaning he issues a judgment on them according to the rule that he believes in and is satisfied with. He is characterized by intelligence and wit, and he is quick-witted, acting like a wise man, giving a silencing answer to his opponent. It is not only the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who has this Islamic mentality, but the Companions, may God be pleased with them all, and especially the first Caliph, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, have such a mentality, how could they not, when they were raised in the school of Prophethood?
Al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, accompanied the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, in his migration from Mecca to Medina. He knows that the meaning of this companionship is that he will be alone with the Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds for at least a dozen days, and that he will offer his life for his master, leader, and beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. What victory in this existence is greater than this victory? That Al-Siddiq is alone, apart from the people of the earth, and apart from all the Companions, in the company of the master of creation and his companionship for all this time? The meanings of love for God appear in Abu Bakr's fear while he is in the cave that the polytheists will see them, so that Al-Siddiq will be an example of what the sincere soldier of the Da’wah should be like, with his faithful leader, when danger surrounds him with fear and compassion for his life. Abu Bakr at that time was not afraid of death for himself, and if that were the case, he would not have accompanied the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, in this dangerous migration, knowing that the least he would receive would be death if the polytheists caught him with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, but he feared for the life of the noble Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and for the future of Islam if the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, fell into the hands of the polytheists. The high security sense of Al-Siddiq is evident in his migration with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in many situations, including when he answered the questioner: Who is this man who is with you? Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, said: This is a guide who guides me on the way. The questioner thought that Al-Siddiq meant the road, but he meant the path of goodness, and this indicates Abu Bakr's good use of ambiguity, to avoid embarrassment or lying, and it clearly indicates the Islamic mentality that he enjoys.
O Muslims:
Have women become barren from giving birth to men like these, with sound Islamic minds? To answer, we say: The mothers who gave birth to these men with enlightened Islamic minds are still capable of giving birth to leaders like these great ones, who I do not exaggerate in saying are like the Companions, may God be pleased with them! We give a vivid example of this from our current era in which we live, and I was an eyewitness, narrating it honestly as I experienced it in a tangible reality: When God honored me with carrying the Da’wah with the youth of Hizb ut-Tahrir, and I was arrested in the year eighty-three, by the intelligence services in the state of Jordan, and I was new to the Da’wah, I met many of the party's youth, and I learned a lot from them and from their bold and courageous positions. One of the most prominent of these young men from whom I learned, and from whom I benefited greatly, is our current Amir, the Amir of Hizb ut-Tahrir, Ata bin Khalil Abu Al-Rashtah, may God protect him and watch over him. He is truly a man, and what a man! A unique fabric, with a high-class Islamic personality, an enlightened Islamic mentality, and an Islamic psyche of the highest order. This is a testimony of truth for which I will be asked on the Day of Resurrection, I offer it sincerely for the sake of God, the Lord of the Worlds, and it is a testimony that I present to the Islamic nation, so that it may be guided to the right path, as it seeks its way towards glory, and looks for a leader who will lead it to safety! And govern it with the law of its merciful Lord! And implement in it the guidance of the Qur’an, and act in it according to the Sunnah of the Prophet Adnan, peace and blessings be upon him.
O Muslims:
I will mention to you one situation from the many situations that highlight the high-class Islamic mentality that our Amir, the Amir of Hizb ut-Tahrir, enjoys. He gave a lecture by heart while he was in Amman, and while he was giving it, it was as if he was reading from a book. This lecture was entitled: "Economic Crises: Their Reality and Treatments from the Perspective of Islam." After he finished it, he allowed questions from the audience. However, the intelligence services had planted one of their collaborators to disrupt the lecture, so he rushed to ask the following question: Hizb ut-Tahrir was founded in the early fifties, so what has it done so far? So what did Abu Yassin answer him, I wonder? Open your hearts and minds, O believers, and listen carefully, to hear this answer that shows his quick-wittedness. Abu Yassin, may God protect him and watch over him, said: "I have done what I was assigned to do, thank you." As soon as the audience heard that answer, everyone in the hall applauded in admiration.
Dear listeners, listeners of the Media Office Radio of Hizb ut-Tahrir:
