Reflections on the Book: "Elements of the Islamic Psyche"
Episode Ten
Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the Imam of the pious, the master of the messengers, the one sent as a mercy to the worlds, our master Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions, and make us with them, and gather us in their company by your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
My dear listeners, listeners of the media office radio of Hizb ut-Tahrir:
Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you. In this episode, we continue our reflections on the book: "Elements of the Islamic Psyche." In order to build the Islamic personality, with attention to the Islamic mentality and the Islamic psyche, we say, with God's grace:
O Muslims:
It is befitting for Muslims in general, and for the carriers of the Da'wah in particular, to have the Qur’an as the spring of their hearts and a companion on their path, guiding them to all good, and elevating them from peak to peak, taking care of it at all hours of the night and day, reciting, memorizing and acting upon it, so that they may truly be the best successors to the best predecessors.
These are honorable hadiths about the virtue of reciting the Qur’an, and urging its memorization, learning, and teaching, adhering to it, acting upon it, and applying it in the arena of life:
It was narrated from Ali, may God honor his face, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "There will be a tribulation." Ali, may God be pleased with him, said: "What is the way out of it, O Messenger of God?" He said: "The Book of God, in it is the news of those before you, and the news of what is after you, and the judgment of what is between you, and it is the decisive word, not a jest. Whoever abandons it out of arrogance, God will break him, and whoever seeks guidance in other than it, God will mislead him, and it is the strong rope of God, and His clear light, and the wise reminder, and it is the straight path, and the beneficial healing, a protection for whoever clings to it, and salvation for whoever follows it, it does not deviate so it is straightened, and it does not go astray so it is brought back, and it is that which desires do not deviate with it, and tongues do not become confused with it, and opinions do not branch out with it, and scholars are not satisfied with it, and the pious do not tire of it, and it does not become old with much repetition, and its wonders do not end, and it is that which the jinn did not end when they heard it, they said: {Indeed, we have heard a wonderful Qur'an}. Whoever knows its knowledge has surpassed, and whoever speaks by it has spoken the truth, and whoever judges by it has been just, and whoever acts by it has been rewarded, and whoever calls to it has been guided to a straight path."
Al-Bukhari narrated from Uthman bin Affan, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best of you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it."
Al-Tirmidhi narrated from Abdullah bin Masoud, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever reads a letter from the Book of God will have a good deed for it, and a good deed is multiplied tenfold. I do not say that 'Alif Lam Meem' is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter." This is a sound hadith.
Muslim also narrated from Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, may God be pleased with her, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who is skilled in the Qur’an is with the noble, righteous scribes, and the one who reads the Qur’an and stumbles in it and it is difficult for him will have two rewards."
Al-Tirmidhi narrated in his Sahih that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who has nothing of the Qur’an inside him is like a ruined house." This is a sound hadith.
Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Abi Umama al-Bahili, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Read the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions."
Ibn Hibban narrated in his Sahih from Jabir bin Abdullah, may God be pleased with them, and Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman from Jabir and from Ibn Masoud, may God be pleased with them, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The Qur’an is an intercessor whose intercession is accepted, and a plaintiff whose claim is believed. Whoever puts it in front of him will be led to Paradise, and whoever puts it behind him will be driven to Hellfire." This is a sound hadith.
It is mentioned in the book "Al-Mukhasas" by Ibn Sidah: And in the hadith: "The Qur’an is a plaintiff whose claim is believed," meaning it accuses its companion if he neglects it. If the Qur’an is not taken care of by its companion through constant memorization and review, it will be lost and escape from its companion. Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated in their Sahihs from Abu Musa al-Ash’ari, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Take care of the Qur’an, for by the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it escapes faster than camels from their hobbles."
Muslim narrated in his Sahih that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, God raises some people by this Book and lowers others by it." Abu Dawood and Al-Tirmidhi narrated in the sound hadith that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: 'Read and ascend, and recite as you used to recite in the world, for your station will be at the last verse you recite.'"
Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated in their Sahihs from Abu Musa al-Ash’ari, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The example of the believer who reads the Qur’an is like the citron: its taste is good and its scent is good. And the example of the believer who does not read the Qur’an is like the date: its taste is good but it has no scent. And the example of the hypocrite who reads the Qur’an is like the basil: its scent is good but its taste is bitter. And the example of the hypocrite who does not read the Qur’an is like the colocynth: its taste is bitter and it has no scent."
And after that, O Muslims:
The aforementioned honorable hadiths show the great status of the Holy Qur’an and the great status of the bearer of the Great Qur’an, who carries it to ponder it and act upon it, and takes care of it in his travels and stays, so that he may be a tremendous energy in all avenues of goodness, not to put it on the shelf until dust covers it, or to decorate it and lock it in his treasuries until oblivion overtakes it, so that he may be, God forbid, among the losers.
So take care of the Holy Qur’an, O dear brothers, and hasten to recite it as it should be recited, and ponder it as it should be pondered, and act upon it as it should be acted upon, and adhere to it as it should be adhered to, so that your taste may be good, and your scent may be good, and then you will be in the front ranks in carrying the Da’wah in this world, just as you will be in the front ranks in Paradise in the Hereafter when it is said: Read and ascend. By that you will be worthy of the great victory and the great triumph, and the pleasure of God is greater. {And give good tidings to the believers}.
Dear listeners: Listeners of the media office radio of Hizb ut-Tahrir:
We will suffice with this amount in this episode, with the understanding that we will complete our reflections in future episodes, God Almighty willing. Until that time and until we meet you, we leave you in God’s care, protection, and security. We thank you for your kind listening, and peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
