The Houthis' Economic Achievements After 11 Years
Minting Two Coins of 50 and 100 Riyals!!
On Monday, July 14, 2025, the Minister of Information of the Ministry of Construction and Change, Hashem Sharaf al-Din, made a statement to Saba News Agency, in which he said: "Every useful national currency available to the people is a bridge towards the independence of the decision, and every economic victory achieved is an unshakeable fortress in the face of the storm, and every financial success is a shield in the battle of dignity, and a sword that cleaves the conspiracies of the enemies of Yemen, thanks to God first, and then to the determination of men who know no impossible."
This statement came after the Houthis' central bank in Sana'a issued a press release on Saturday, July 12, 2025, announcing the minting of a 50-rial coin, as a replacement for the damaged paper currencies of the same denomination, to be put into circulation from the following day, Sunday, July 13, 2025, after the issuance of the 100-rial coin in March 2024. And one day before the issuance of the 200-rial paper currency.
One has the right to ask: Have the Houthis fulfilled what they promised the people of Yemen in their September 21, 2014 revolution? Is this work a radical solution according to the Islamic perspective on dealing with mandatory paper money, or the transformation to the gold and silver standard? Or is it a stopgap solution according to the World Bank system and the capitalist economic system, and not outside it?
Looking at the situation, it suffices in answering the question. Economic burdens have increased, along with the prices of oil derivatives and gas, multiplied many times, and your levies of money have increased from what they were before September 2014, as well as the increase in the price of electricity units multiplied many times, in addition to cutting the salaries of public sector employees, and your levies of money have increased from what they were.
After all this, you cheer and drum and describe the corrupt reality as an unprecedented success, to replace two coins and a third paper one, in place of damaged paper currencies, and you describe it as a bridge, fortress, shield, and sword, according to the statement of Minister Sharaf al-Din, in light of the globally faltering capitalist economic system! Unaware of the difference between it and the economic system in Islam.
What sovereignty, economic victory, skill, and sufficiency is Minister Sharaf al-Din talking about, when the US Treasury Department was present at the Sana'a and Aden agreement on transferring banks to Aden last month, and the Bank and the International Monetary Fund and their arms, such as the World Food Program, are still practicing their work in Sana'a?! Is the stability of the exchange of hard currencies in Sana'a against the rial natural or artificial? It has become clear to the people of Yemen that you do not have a clear economic vision, nor an economic program prepared in advance, you and those who increased the money supply in the Central Bank of Aden, without fear of God or trepidation, resulting in the loss of the people's money, so you and the Al-Alimi Council are competing in evil.
Oh, Minister Sharaf al-Din: We want a gold currency "a dinar weighing 4.25 grams of 24 carats" in monetary transactions, not a gold signature as you mentioned in your statement to Saba News Agency - which describes the corrupt reality as an unprecedented success, unaware of the difference between two economic systems, between them what is between heaven and earth!
The radical solution to currency problems is to return to the gold standard, whether by dealing directly with gold or with paper acting on its behalf that is convertible without restriction or condition. Many economists have realized this, and if it were not for the countries concerned, especially America, standing in the face of the return to the gold standard for fear of losing its political and economic hegemony, the world would have returned to it, because this system is what preserves stability and leads to prosperity in economic activity without the dominance of one country over another, and in it, money is attributed to a unit agreed upon to respect and evaluate it, and in it also countries cannot increase the size of the money supply because countries cannot issue any amount they want of money because they are obligated to the gold balance, and this is the opposite of mandatory papers.
The Islamic point of view shows that nothing should be money except gold and silver for the legal evidence contained therein, including the approval of the Messenger ﷺ of the use of gold and silver as money for the Islamic state, and Islam has linked legal rulings to gold and silver, and forbade hoarding them, and imposed zakat on them as money and prices for sales and wages for efforts (in every 20 dinars half a dinar) (and in every 200 dirhams five dirhams), and imposed the diya with them as money, and the quorum for cutting off in theft when its conditions are met (the hand of the thief is not cut off except in a quarter of a dinar or more), so the state that wants to return to the gold standard must pursue a policy of self-sufficiency, so it reduces its imports and works to exchange the goods it imports for goods that it has, as it must work to sell the goods it has for goods it needs or for gold and silver or for the currency that it needs to import what it needs of goods and services, and this system must be applied completely and not partially, with the rest of the legal rulings in governance, judiciary, education...etc. under the caliphate.
It has become obligatory upon us in the Media Office of Hizb ut-Tahrir/Wilayah of Yemen, to clarify to the people of Yemen in particular, and to Muslims in general, the reality of what is going on in Yemen of political actions that are hidden from people, and to clarify the legal rulings related to them, working and calling on the people of Yemen to work with us to establish the second Khilafah Rashidah on the method of Prophethood; to implement Islam, and organize all aspects of life according to the Islamic system with its rulings and ideas, not with the system and rulings of others. Hizb ut-Tahrir has prepared state men and a comprehensive and complete program for the coming Khilafah state soon, God willing.
﴿Allah has promised those of you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession in the land, just as He granted it to those before them, and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has approved for them, and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security [in which] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that - then those are the defiantly disobedient.﴾
